ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

1900 - Fires where fought using the bucket brigade system with water coming from cisterns and wells within the town of Dublin.

1903 - Town of Dublin obtained a chemical wagon to fight fires.

1913 - A two wheel hose cart was purchased from the Town of Pulaski. The cart was pulled by the members to the scene then the hose was taken off the cart and hooked straight into the hydrant. The fire hydrant was supplied by water that was pumped from a well then stored in a sheet metal tank which was located on what is now Dunlap Rd.

1914 - January 16, 1914 the Dublin Fire Company was organized and L. T. Dudley was elected as the departments first fire chief.

1943 - The Dublin Fire Company was re-organized and the name was changed to Dublin Volunteer Fire Department, Sam Wilson was the fire chief during this period. On April 23, 1943, a 500 gallon per minute pump powered by a 6 cylinder engine and mounted on a 2 wheel trailer was acquired. The pump was pulled to fires by a pickup truck owned by the Town of Dublin and served the Town until 1949.

1949 - The Fire Department received a 1949 International pickup truck A.B. Powell after the Town traded him the old pump house lot on the south end of Dunbar Street. The truck was converted into the Town of Dublin's first fire truck, replacing the old trailer/pump. Dublin Fire Department's first Fire Station was a small building located near the fire siren tower next to the old down town post office. The siren and tower had been constructed in 1912 at a cost of $52.00 plus freight.

1954 - R.S. "Buzz" Cecil was elected Chief of the department and served in this capacity until his retirement in 1988. Numerous equipment purchases where made during this period using funds from donations.

1955 - A panel truck was purchased by the department at a cost of $450.00. This truck was to be used as a equipment truck. There was also a portable pump purchased during this period at a cost of $440.00.

1956 - The Town of Dublin voted to give each Fireman that answered a fire call within the town limits $2.00 per call. This money was for the firemen to have his clothing cleaned after a fire call. (There was no turnout gear at this time.) The Firemen decided to put the money back into the department so they could have a Christmas dinner at the end of the year to honor the ladies of the Fire Department.

1957 - The Department moved into new quarters located in the old municipal building. Although the quarters were very cramped the building did provide the Fire Department a meeting room as well as a small bay to house apparatus. During this period, the Town of Dublin also provided turnout gear for each member.

1965 - A new 1965 Ford, 750 gallon per minute Oren pumper was bought by the Fire Department at the cost of $13,337.00. The Town of Dublin paid $6,337.00 and the County of Pulaski $4,000.00 leaving the Department to provide $3,000.00. The Department's first two way radios were purchased at a cost of $194.95 also during this period.

1966 - Plectron's were purchased to alert the firemen of calls.

1969 - A four door International pickup truck was purchased to use as a equipment truck.

1970 - Mrs. Annie Withdrow donated a lot on Trinkle Avenue to the Fire Department. The Fire Department started a $65,000.00 fund drive to build a new Fire Station on this site.

1971 - The New Dublin Volunteer Fire Department station was completed and dedicated. The finished building was 60 feet by 75 feet and had two bays, an office, a meeting room and a kitchen.

1974 - The County of Pulaski purchased a new 1974 International, 750 gallon per minute pumper for the Department. The Fire Department purchased the necessary equipment to outfit the truck. A used 1972 beer truck and a 2,000 gallon tank where purchased to be converted into a tanker truck in 1974 as well.

1977 - The fire department purchased pagers for all members. The County of Pulaski purchased an air cascade system for filling air bottles and placed it at the Fire Department for filling air bottles.

1978 - The first part-time Dublin Firefighter was hired by the Town.

1979 - An addition was planned and started for the Fire Department. This new addition included a new bay, wash pit to wash hose, a hose tower for drying hose, a work shop and a work room. This addition required a $75,000.00 fund drive by the Fire Department.

1985 - Three Pieces of Fire Equipment were bought: A 1985 Grumman 1000 gallon per minute 2 stage class A pumper with a jump seat and a five person capacity at a cost of $87,712.00. A 1985 Ford Custom Cab utility truck with an eight person seating capacity at a cost of $54,451.00. A 1985 Plymouth Grand Fury fire car.

1988 - Fire Chief R.S. "Buzz" Cecil retires and R.D. Cecil is elected Fire Chief.

1989 - The Department purchased a Ford F-350 4 wheel drive brush truck which cost $41,365.00.

1995 - A new addition was built on to the Fire Department to house a 45 kilowatt Detroit diesel generator which was donated to the department by Bell Atlantic. Landmark Builders built the addition at a cost of $12,900.00. Rudy Hawkins Electrical donated all the electrical supplies and labor for the project. Some of the other contributors included: A-1 Electrical, Valley Mechanical, Pulaski Furniture, Berkley Tool, New River Oils, Beech Manufacturing and Renfro. The Dublin Town Council paid for the addition and the Fire Department officially became designated as an emergency shelter.

1997 - A new Ford F350 crew cab pickup truck was purchased at a cost of $28,640.00 from Homer Cox Ford. This vehicle was purchased solely with Department funds.

2000 - The Dublin Volunteer Fire Department hits the web at dublinfd.com.

2002 - Ronald McClure is elected Fire Chief of Dublin Volunteer Fire Department.

2003 - Robert D. Cecil is elected Fire Chief.

2003 - Bi-annual motorcycle fundraiser began. Raffle of new Harley Dividson motorcycle earns the department money to purchase equipment.

2003 - First set of extrication equipment was purchased for $25,000

2004 - Ronald McClure is elected Fire Chief (current).

2004 - A 2000 Chevy Suburban was purchased as the chief's response vehicle, replacing the 1985 Plymouth Grand Fury.

2005 - The Dublin Fire Department purchased a 2005 Ferrara 77' rear mount Quint with 2000gpm single stage pump and seating for six firefighters for $525,000. Ladder 204 replaced the 1974 International 750gpm engine.

2006 - The Town of Dublin celebrates their 100th anniversary.
